MY CHOWS
My chows are my family. I have had this stoic oriental breed for over 40 years. I love this breed for many reasons; they are loyal, protective and very independent. The breed is bright, very clean and very powerful. There is nothing cuter than a chow chow puppy. I have had many chows over the years, each having its' own personality. No two are alike. I have found the females to be more protective and more willing to please. I love my males for their size as many of my males have been referred to as the "Gentle Giant". I have had the comic who was always clowning around, to stoic who would look down her nose at every other chow and had nothing to do with other breeds. They felt other breeds were inferior.
I have had my medical child that seemed to have one problem after another and required several major surgeries and still lived to be ten years old only to meet his demise with liver cancer. I have had two chows that were protective and there is no doubt in my mind that these two would have gladly given their life for me, if it was necessary. Not by chance they were related. One being the Uncle and the other being his niece. There is so much to study about breeding and hereditary. You can look at some chows and know exactly what line they came from and what is behind that pedigree. I have had my fair share of hip dysplagia, entropria and thyroid problems, as all of us have had, although some don't admit it. I would never consider any other breed as all breeds have their problems. I have had different breeders tell me when they die they want to come back as one of my chows. This is the ultimate compliment as far as I am concerned.
Our kennel is nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Summit. We love the mountains and the weather. We have a small kennel on 2 fenced in acres for lots of exercise and chasing of rabbits, ground hogs, deer and anything that may happen by at the time. My chows run free within this area. We have several kennel runs for visitors if they do not get along well with others. Each chow has their own dog house ( although they don't use them) they prefer to be out on the covered patio regardless of the weather. All my chows are house dogs and enjoy the run of the house even though we have a kennel room with crates and a grooming area. My chows favorite thing is riding in the car and visiting friends and neighbors. We attend obedience classes and find that the chows are very sociable. They have their special friends in class and enjoy doing obedience. On occasion we do conformation
Please visit my chow family. They each have their own photo gallery.
